How to choose the right notice board or whiteboard

Whiteboards and notice boards can both be helpful tools. You can remind yourself of important tasks and events and come up with plans. You can brainstorm, and even display motivational quotes and pictures. But there are a tonne of different kinds out there, so how do you choose the right one for you?

Choosing Your Whiteboard or Notice board

When choosing your whiteboard or notice board, make sure you know the answers to a few questions first. How much do you want to spend? How often will you be using the board? Where will you hang it? Then you can make a good decision based on your answers.

Different Whiteboard Surfaces

Most people don’t realise that there are different surfaces when it comes to choosing a whiteboard. They aren’t all created equal. There are three main types, listed as follows:
  • Melamine dry wipe
  • Magnetic
  • Vitreous enamel steel

The most common kind of whiteboard you’ll find is the melamine dry wipe. You can easily wipe this surface clean. With a magnetic board, you can do the same kind of thing, but you can also use magnets and things on the surface. This makes it useful to pin up different notes and things you might need to look at. It basically gives you a noticeboard and whiteboard in one. The vitreous enamel steel board is for those who are serious about their whiteboard. You can do everything listed here with it, and it usually comes with a guarantee of up to 25 years. If you want a durable board for years to come, then that’s the type for you. Make sure you take your time when selecting the right surface, as it’s the most important part.

Hanging Your Board And Aesthetics

How do you want to hang your board? There are a number of different fixing styles you can find, from railings at the back to corner fittings. However, try to avoid a board that hangs from the wall the same as a frame. This can cause problems and isn’t very sturdy. Once you’ve considered these important factors, you can think about the aesthetic by choosing the correct frame. There are wooden options, but you can also choose strong aluminium frames for durability. Just beware of plastic frames posing as aluminium.

Selecting A Notice board

When selecting your notice board, you’ll have the same considerations to make for frames and fittings. However, you’ll need to be sure that it’s fire rated if it’s hanging in a public building. The materials used for noticeboards are usually quite different. You can find cork boards, which are easy to pin different things to. They are the cheapest kind, if you’re looking for a cost effective solution. Then there are front runner boards, which usually have a smooth finish and hide pinholes. If you really want to splash out and buy a durable noticeboard, a krommenie board is great. It’s self healing for pins, although you don’t get as many colour options. It’s usually the most expensive kind, but it is the longest lasting of them all.
